David Skaith was frustrated with how York and North Yorkshire was being left behind by politicians in London. That's why he stood in 2024 to be the first ever Mayor of York and North Yorkshire. He is a tireless champion of the region, ensuring that York and North Yorkshire gets a fair deal from Westminster.

David grew up in Harrogate, and is now raising his family in York. He ran a small high street business before becoming Mayor, and played an active role in a number of community groups. He’s passionate about activity and sport, mental health support, building strong high streets and supporting farmers and our rural communities, because everywhere matters.
